People and Lifestyle

The town of Melrose is perfect for those looking to live a short distance away from Boston’s urban metro. Spanning approximately seven miles, the close-knit community fosters meaningful, lifelong friendships between neighbors, and this community is beloved by families who crave a little extra elbow room.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

From eclectic eateries to charming boutiques, Melrose has it all. Visit the popular local boutique Buckalew’s General Store to find cute gifts, wine baskets, and home decor for that special someone or your new home. Running is a popular activity for locals; consider buying a new pair of athletic shoes as you browse the shelves at Marathon Sports. The neighborhood is very pet-friendly, so if you have a furry member in the family, you can pick up all of your pet care needs at Waggery on Main.

Start the day with a fresh cup of coffee and a couple of flakey pastries from the cozy Bohemian Coffeehouse. Dine in at La Qchara and experience the vibrant cafe atmosphere while savoring a Latin meal and beverage. The Greater Boston area is known for its fresh and delicious seafood, so head on over and try a dish from the nautical-themed Turner’s Seafood Grill & Market

Things to Do

Melrose Common is a beautiful park near the center of Melrose. Here you’ll find an array of amenities for people of all ages; adults can walk their pets, small children can play on the playground, and teens and older adults can use the basketball courts and baseball fields. If you enjoy a short scenic walk, consider the path around Ell Pond. Along the perimeter of the pond, you’ll find other amenities such as the Melrose Dog Park and Melrose Rotary Skate Park. If you're looking for something larger and perhaps to spend the whole day outdoors, consider the grand 2,200 acres of Middlesex Fells Reservation. The Fells is a great place to enjoy a long trail run or a ride on your mountain bike.

In September, attend the popular Victorian Fair, where locals come together to enjoy live entertainment and performances, food, and various other vendors. If you or anyone in your family loves to dance, be sure to check out the Dance Gallery. Love reading? Visit the town's Public Library to browse the shelves.
